Outside Scholarship Information

The Office of Financial Aid receives notification of various scholarships that are awarded by organizations other than the School of Law. These organizations have their own application and selection criteria for awarding private funds.

The following scholarships vary in amount and criteria and students are responsible for all application, renewal, and disbursement paperwork:

Incoming Students:

Minority Corporate Counsel Association Scholarship
The Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) will award a number of $10,000 renewable and non-renewable scholarships to students entering law school in the fall of 2008. Scholarship eligibility will include academic achievement, an interest in corporate law, and financial need. To learn more about the scholarship criteria and to download an application go to www.uncf.org. The deadline for receipt of completed applications is June 1, 2008.

Rhode Island Bar Foundation Scholarship
The Rhode Island Bar Foundation will award the Thomas F. Black, Jr. Memorial Scholarship to two Rhode Island residents who are full-time, first year law students for the 2008-2009 academic year. The $15,000 non-renewable scholarships will be made on the basis of financial need, academic performance, community and public service, and commitment to the State of Rhode Island. Additional scholarship information and applications are available at http://www.ribar.com/foundation/scholarships.asp. Applications and required paperwork must be received by March 21, 2008.

Returning Students:

Attorney-CPA Foundation Scholarship
The Attorney-CPA Foundation will award fourteen scholarships to full-time law students who have obtained their CPA certificates and will be graduating from law school in 2009. Scholarship amounts range from $250 to $1,000. Applicants will be evaluated based on academic performance, leadership experience, and financial need. Applications and additional information are available online at www.attorney-cpa.com/foundation. Scholarship applications must be postmarked by April 15, 2008.

Connecticut Association of Professional Financial Aid Administrators Scholarship
The Connecticut Association of Professional Financial Aid Administrators (CAPFAA) will award up to seven $1,000 non-renewable scholarships to undergraduate and/or graduate students for the 2008-2009 academic year. Students must be enrolled full-time at a Connecticut college or university, with proof of financial need. Applications and additional scholarship criteria are available from the CAPFAA website at www.capfaa.org. Scholarship applications and all required paperwork must be postmarked by April 1, 2008.

National Federation of the Blind
Applicants for this scholarship must be high-achieving legally blind students with financial need, who are studying in a post secondary degree program in the United States. Thirty scholarships will be awarded in the $3,000-$12,000 range by the National Federation of the Blind Scholarship Committee. Most scholarships will go to full-time students, but there is a possibility that one could be awarded to a part-time student who is employed full-time and looking for enhanced professional opportunities. Additional scholarship information and applications are available at www.nfb.org. Applications must be received by March 31, 2008.

New England Employee Benefits Council Scholarship
New England Employee Benefits Council (NEEBC) will award scholarships to students considering careers in employee-benefits related fields. This scholarship program offers an annual award of up to $5,000 and may be renewable. Eligible applicants can be either full or part-time students, who reside in New England or are enrolled at a New England college. Scholarship applications and additional paperwork must be postmarked no later than April 1, 2008.
