Applying as a First-Year Student

We’re pleased you’re applying to the Quinnipiac University School of Law.

The Quinnipiac University School of Law operates under a rolling-admission system, but has a priority application deadline of March 1 for fall admission and scholarship consideration. Early application is strongly advised.  Dean’s Fellows and Faculty Fellows candidates should apply by Jan. 15.

An attempt is made to review applicants’ files as soon as they are complete and to notify applicants of the Faculty Admissions Committee’s decision as soon as possible. However, because of the recent increase in application volume and an attempt to enroll the best possible class, many decisions are not finalized for the fall semester until March or April.

Before You Apply

In order to apply you must:

Have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
There is no ideal major or required major for law school. Today law students are graduates from all fields of study, including business, education, engineering, humanities, natural sciences, nursing and social sciences, and others. More important is pursuing a program that teaches one to think logically, read carefully and write well.

Take the LSAT
The LSAT is a demanding standardized test and we recommend that you prepare for it seriously and carefully. We offer an LSAT preparation course here at Quinnipiac. We accept LSAT scores earned within five years previous to the application date. Please note that if you take the test more than once, we use your higher LSAT score. Call us at 203-582-3214 for more information about the preparation course.

Register with the Law School Data Assembly Service
This service will send your transcripts to the law school. You can also apply electronically through LSDAS, should you choose to do so. Quinnipiac’s LSAC code is 3973.

To apply:

1. Complete the application form.

You can choose one of several methods:

2. Draft your personal statement

This should be a clear and concise statement articulating your reasons for pursuing a legal education. You can include an additional statement further explaining details which may not be clear or obvious in your transcripts. We also require a resume that clearly outlines life, work, education and community service experience.

3. Arrange for at least two letters of recommendation.

Consider asking academic professors or employers to provide positive, accurate statements on your behalf. These letters of recommendation can be sent directly to the law school or they can be sent directly to the LSDAS.

4. Explore your financial options.

If you’re applying for financial aid, there are a number of steps you must take.
