Eager for real-world experience? The externship program at the Quinnipiac University School of Law provides more than 300 potential placements with lawyers, judges and mediators.
Our dynamic externship model emphasizes close, collaborative relationships among students, faculty supervisors and your real-world field supervisors. You’ll analyze and reflect on your field experiences throughout the semester in on-campus seminar classes and tutorials.
Here are some of the externships we arrange:
Corporate Counsel
You’ll work with in-house counsel at area corporations such as Doctor’s Associates, franchiser for SUBWAY restaurants. You’ll be paired with attorneys who either provide general representation to their corporate clients or specialize in particular areas of corporate law. More…
Criminal Justice
You’ll work with prosecutors and public defenders in the state and federal criminal-justice systems. You’ll interview clients and witnesses, participate in trial strategy sessions, conduct plea negotiations, and appear and argue in court. More…
Family & Juvenile Law
You’ll work in legal service agencies and private law offices that serve low- and middle-income individuals on cases that involve divorce, custody, domestic violence and/or child protection issues. More…
Field Placement II
Students who have completed one externship semester may continue their field experience in different placements in the same program through this second-semester externship sequel.
Judicial
You’ll work with state and federal judges at the trial and appellate levels in courthouses throughout the state and sometimes beyond. You’ll develop a deeper understanding of the responsibility of judges in our legal system and gain insight from their reactions to the lawyers and litigants who appear before them. More…
Legal Services
Students work in legal services offices that provide vital legal assistance to low-income individuals. It will help you develop important lawyering skills and to see the impact of lawyers’ work in securing access to justice for society’s most vulnerable members. More…
Legislative
Interested in politics? You’ll work with legislative and executive branch lawyers in the State Capitol and learn how public policy takes shape in the give and take of the legislative process. More…
Mediation
You’ll help parties in conflict to reach their own decisions and resolve their own disagreements, mastering not only mediation skills, but lawyering skills by observing the work of advocates through a neutral lens. More…
Public Interest
You’ll work with lawyers in non-profit advocacy organizations, state agencies and other public interest practice settings, as well as in private firms that make significant pro bono commitments. More…
